The
CenterPoint Story
When Dave and Vicki Jansen arrived in Columbus in the spring of 2002,
they knew virtually no one. They came only with a God-given vision of
starting a new church for the people of southern Delaware County - a
church that would be relevant to their lives, where they could build
strong relationships and where they could, above all, be real. Driven
by a desire to see lives transformed from the centerpoint out, and
believing that a relevant, relational, real church could help
facilitate that, they moved from their home in Muskegon, Michigan to
the Lewis Center area to begin putting the pieces together.
First, Dave and Vicki set out to build authentic relationships within
the community and to share their faith and vision with those they came
in contact. Some of those they met discovered a meaningful relationship
with God by putting their faith in Christ, while others who were
already Christians but who did not have a church home, caught the
vision and jumped on board as well. Soon about a dozen people felt that
they were ready to help build the kind of church that the Jansen’s
pictured would be successful in changing lives.
In 2003, they began holding once-a-month “preview” worship services at
the Quest Business Center in the Polaris area, to give everyone a
glimpse of how the vision would look and feel. These services kept the
group together and moving forward, while allowing plenty of time for
the priority of building more relationships in the community. As the
year continued the preview services grew more frequent and the core of
people committed to the vision grew to about 40.
All of this led up to the Grand Opening of CenterPoint Church in
September of 2003, when former Buckeye, Archie Griffin, shared his
testimony before a crowd of nearly 175 people. Weekly celebration
services were inaugurated along with a variety of ministries for the
family. Some who came to hear Archie stayed beyond that opening day,
and in the first year the body grew from 40 to about 65 people in
weekly attendance. Over the next several years the church continued to
grow to its current size of about 100 people in worship while seeing
lives transformed from the centerpoint out one at a time.
CenterPoint has just put down more permanent roots through the purchase
of property in Lewis Center that will eventually hold a new ministry
center. We have also begun to worship at a new 24/7 facility off Orange
Road each Sunday at 10AM. Please come and be a part of the CenterPoint
story that God is writing. It’s exciting to be a key player in the
plot!
